The DJI Matrice 5D has leaked in China, and the numbers tell the story: just over 3 kilograms, roughly 750 grams heavier than the current Matrice 4TD.
That extra 750g has to go somewhere, and the smart money says it’s built-in LiDAR plus a built-in RTK antenna — sensors that currently hang off the airframe as add-ons. Baking them in would make the 5D a true all-in-one surveying and inspection platform.
A few caveats: these specs come from a leaker, not DJI, so treat them as unconfirmed. That said, this particular leaker has a strong track record on DJI hardware.
And the bad news for US pilots: this is almost certainly not one we’ll see stateside. DJI aircraft can’t get FCC approval right now, so the 5D will remain a look-but-don’t-fly proposition for American operators — even as it shows DJI isn’t slowing down on innovation.
